Oregon City Church of the Nazarene has a variety of Christian Education opportunities designed with you in mind. We have options for the new and curious or those who have been walking with the Lord for years; those preferring large classes or small groups; and those wanting to delve into Biblical topics or relational interests. Regardless of where you find yourself in life our goal is to provide you with the resources, support, and encouragement you’ll need to grow in your relationship with God and others. The mission of Sunday School is to carry out the Great Commission to children, youth, and adults in preparation for a lifetime of Christian holiness. Sunday School hour is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  You can find a pamphlet listing classes, locations and current topics of study at one of the welcome stations. One of our friendly greeters can also assist you in finding a class. We have a variety of Small Groups and Recovery Groups throughout the year such as: Financial Peace University and Celebrate Recovery. Watch the bulletins for times and locations. Bible Study groups are held throughout the year for men and women. Our Hispanic Ministries also has a Women’s Bible Study group.

Caravan – Nazarene Bible-Based Scouting Program    (

                                                   Director:  Cheryl Larson
 WHAT IS CARAVAN
Caravan is a Nazarene Bible-based scouting ministry that meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm throughout the school year (September-June). The evening begins with everyone together for announcements, a devotional and prayer, and pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag and the Bible.  Then they break into classes by age.  Kids learn Bible scriptures along with earning various skill badges and special awards.  The Caravan ministry exists to help children become more like Jesus by encouraging their growth in the four specific areas mentioned in Luke 2:52: mental (wisdom), physical (stature), spiritual (favor with God) and social (favor with men).  “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” (Luke 2:52)
Our Caravan program is designed for children ages four to twelve years old.  Children become members of one of the four major groups based on their age:  Benson’s Buddies (4 years to 6 years, but not yet in 1st Grade); Searchers (1st/2nd graders); Explorers (3rd/4th graders); or Adventurers (5th/6th graders).  Each group is under the direction of one or more adult leaders who are called “Guides”.
The main Caravan mission is to “Point Kids in the Direction of Christ!”
The Caravan ministry is a valuable tool to help a child BE TRANSFORMED as they stand out for Christ.  There is a strong commitment to the physical, social, mental & spiritual growth of each child.  It is a wonderful journey where they will learn about their world, their church and God!
Caravan teaches the 1st/2nd graders the “I Believes” of our denomination and a total of 30 badge skills. They wear scarfs to display their earned badges. The 3rd-6th graders are taught the “16 Articles of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene, information about prominent figures in Nazarene church history as well as valuable skills to help them develop spiritually, socially, mentally, and physically.  They wear sashes to display their earned badges from 3rd through 6th grade.
  Benson’s Buddies
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”  (Proverbs 3:5-6).  Proverbs 3:5, the motto for Benson’s Buddies, helps children learn and understand they can “Trust in the Lord.”
Benson’s Buddies is a pre-Caravan program where 4 to 6-year olds, who are not yet in elementary school, become familiar with the format and ceremonies of Caravan.  Benson is a red, English-style, double-decker bus. The Benson’s Buddies two-year curriculum introduces young children to many social settings that exist in their communities, cities, and the world. A major goal of Benson’s Buddies is to foster Christian character and lifestyle.  Children learn an official pledge, motto, and receive awards based on their participation in the lessons.  Each Unit lesson has a Bible memory verse, hands-on activities, and bible story. Benson’s Buddies wear red vests with the Benson’s Buddies logo on the front.
All books, scarfs, sashes, badges, red vests and awards are provided by the Oregon City Church of the Nazarene.  Parents only pay for T-shirts, derby car kits and Caravan Jamboree registration fees.
We carefully screen our volunteers, guides and Caravan helpers before entrusting them to work with children.  Every volunteer in our Children’s Ministry has completed sexual abuse prevention training.  In addition, we use permission slips for all field trips, and sufficient adult supervision.  Finally, every badge that involves a ministry project or field trip has supervision.
WHAT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES DO CARAVAN KIDS PARTICIPATE IN? Caravan Round-UpAward Ceremonies, class parties, Derby Car races, Caravan Jamboree, field trips, craft nights and the annual end-of-year camp-out in May.
Searchers, Explorers and Adventurers have tons of activities, field trips and ministry projects to choose from.   Skill badges come in four categories: mental, physical, spiritual and social.  To earn a badge, certain requirements must be met, including a high level of active participation.  Badges in the Explorer and Adventure groups are all electives, enabling kids to work with their guides, customizing their choices based on their needs, desires and available resources.  Children participate in everything from camping trips to ministry projects, and learn to serve others, both inside the church ad outside in the local  community.
