In June we had the privilege of hearing Eric and Linda Zane who were preparing to go as missionaries to the Philippines. They had served as short term missionaries in Papua, New Guinea and were surprised to be called to the Philippines. Eric made the excellent point that just as Moses' mother had, by faith, put her baby in the basket and trusted God for the outcome, that the Zane family had put their willingness to do God's will in the basket and would trust Him for the outcome. Eric encouraged us to do the same in our walk with the Lord...when we don't understand what God has in mind for us, just put our willingness to do what He wants in the basket and leave the result to the Lord.
Eric has a computer business which is ironic as he doesn't particularly like computers. But God had a plan and He knew that there would be a need for computer skills on the mission field. So He prepared Eric to serve long before Eric knew that he would be chosen to serve. World wide internet telephone long distance is now possible and has phenomenally decreased communication expenses on the mission field. Eric will help to keep the network working well.
Linda shared with us in song. Linda was very specifically called to missions and joyfully answered the call. She is the niece of Maxine Fritz. Both Maxine and Linda's father, Gil, were born in China to missionary parents.
The children are totally charming and have given their parents a wonderful gift ---- they are fully as committed to the next assignment in the Philippines as their parents. They were also with their parents during the New Guinea assignment.
