OREGON CITY CHURCH
of the Nazarene
From the Philippines
Dialog and Pictures By Dan Brown

Good Morning,
It's about 10 A.M. Wednesday. We just now got access to internet. The campus is not up to date with computers. They had 10 donated a few months ago and are trying to get them running.

We left Portland at noon on Saturday and got to bed at 2 A.M. on Monday. We got up at 6 A.M. to prepare for the flight to Cebu. Got to bed after a resounding welcome at 8 P.M. and got up at 5:30 A.M. to go to work. We are removing a kitchen building and replacing it. There are no injuries, no illnesses and (there is) a very positive spirit in our group.

Pastor was asked to speak at chapel yesterday and teach a class today. Many of the women will be working with children today.

My computer stopped working last night and I have over 100 pictures that I can't send to you. I will send a few today from yesterday's work. I am in the President's home using Kim Klementis' computer. Will send more later.

Excerpt from an e-mail from Dan Brown:

"Tuesday was a day of events.  We had about 18 students move us out of the way and they took over digging and removing the dirt.  We figured it would take us two or three dys to remove that dirt and they did it in less than one day!  Praise God!  These people (beautiful) think we are a blessing to them. Ha! Little do they know what a blessing they are to us.  We are not working FOR them, but beside them.
At 10 a.m. yesterday we had a huge explosion with a fire ball.  Fortunately it was a transformer across the street.  It cut all power to the campus.  We had to
stop welding (I am doing the steel layout and Ron is welding) and do other activities."

Next excerpt from Dan Brown:

Praise God for how He chooses to use us.  We cannot know before hand what He is going to do.  It would be too much for us.

Yesterday (Thurs.) we worked on the kitchen, did some plumbing, painting of steel, welding posts, etc.

Last night we went to the red-light district.  It is hard to explain what we experienced and how it has affected each of us.  You will see in the pictures how we set up the equipment for the movie, the children (where did they all come from?), and the prostitutes and druggies.  There were some adults that live and work there.

The movie was made in the Philippines in their own language, not English.  It told
about the occult and how Jesus can save us from that.  It became a melodrama with audience participation.  Even though we couldn't understand, we were caught up with the viewers.
